The Boxmeerse Vaart celebrates its 625th anniversary
In 2025, we will celebrate the 625th anniversary of the Boxmeerse Vaart, an ancient tradition rooted in a miraculous event! We are planning a grand celebration to mark this special occasion.
On Sunday, June 15, we will host the Vaart Festival in Weijer Park, a festive event with the highlight being the musical Vaart d'r In, a wonderful performance directed by Jan Peters.
To commemorate this milestone, a special children's book will also be published. Written by Gerard Sonnemans and beautifully illustrated by Berry Geurts, this book tells the story of the Vaart and the history of Boxmeer in an engaging and accessible way. Although it's aimed at children, adults will enjoy it just as much!
Join us to celebrate this extraordinary anniversary!
For centuries attracts fourteen days after Pentecost the Blood-Procession 'through the festively decorated streets of Boxmeer. Every year, thousands witnessed a magnificent spectacle which hundreds of school children Boxmeer and the surrounding villages participate. Together with guilds and musical groups and a large number of volunteers to make it 'the Blood-Procession' one of the most important (cultural) events of Boxmeer.
